Senator Ned Nwoko has addressed the recent controversy and criticism over his six-year marriage to estranged wife, Regina Daniels.
Following her domestic violence accusations and his counter-claims of substance abuse, Nwoko denied marrying the actress at age 17, stating she was 19.
Crucially, the Senator claimed that he never pursued Regina Daniels for marriage, that it wasn’t his idea.
Asserting instead that her mother, Rita, personally brought her to him for marriage, a fact he claims multiple witnesses can confirm.
Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, has stirred controversy with a recent claim regarding his marriage to estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels.
Responding to the public backlash and criticism surrounding their six-year marriage, Ned Nwoko asserted that he never actively sought out Regina Daniels for marriage.
The Senator’s comments come two weeks after Regina Daniels publicly accused him of domestic violence and stated her intent to end their marriage.
Ned Nwoko had countered her claims by accusing her of substance abuse and demanding she enter a rehabilitation facility.
The very public dispute led to widespread controversy, with many Nigerians and public figures criticizing the Senator for allegedly marrying Regina Daniels when she was a minor (reportedly 17 years old) and calling for his resignation from the Senate.
In a statement released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by his Communication and Technical Action Team, Senator Nwoko addressed the accusations.
He firmly denied marrying the actress at age 17, correcting the timeline by stating:
For clarity, Regina Daniels was born October 10, 2000. If she has been married to me for 6 years, that means she married at 19 and not 17.
The public witnessed her family giving her away in marriage.
Most notably, the Senator claimed that it was Regina Daniels’ mother, Rita, who brought her to him for marriage.
He stated,
“There were witnesses to the fact that her mother personally brought her to me. I never went after her.”
