The health care system in Kogi State will soon experience a major overhaul, as Governor Ahmed Ododo has recently announced a major reform program to revolutionise the delivery of primary health care in the entire state.
The administration revealed elaborate measures to improve access to and quality of healthcare during a stakeholders’ engagement session in Lokoja on Friday. The Newspot newspaper revealed that in March 2012 during a meeting with another deputy governor representing Governor Ododo introduced a schedule that involves spot checks in different Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) all over the state.
A sophisticated monitoring technique will be implemented with the collaboration of the Primary Healthcare Task Force, local government authorities together with traditional rulers thereby promoting accountability. This multiple-entity oversight system is intended to serve the purpose of maintaining sound standards of service delivery and thus the overall delivery of healthcare services to patients across all the facilities.
“The issue of the challenges in the primary health care system is one that our administration is willing to solve hence improving the health of our people”, said Governor Ododo through his deputy. Despite this, the reforms are focused directly on vital healthcare standards that fundamentally measure the efficiency of these healthcare provisions: maternal mortality indicators child mortality indices, and overall immunization coverage, respectively.
Aligned with its plan, the administration is keen on multiple aspects of healthcare delivery with an emphasis on enhancing the methods of data acquisition in the PHCs and optimizing the management of cash flow in the same health facilities. It is therefore a data-driven approach that seeks to improve the presently inconsistent and often inadequate healthcare Services tailored to the needs of the people of Kogi State.
The displayed reform can be considered quite important for the modernization of state healthcare and the improvement of the quality of the services provided at the area level. These two understand that primary care is one of the unnoted gems of the state’s overall value chain in healthcare, and as such, the administration is laying the groundwork for a much stronger and more accessible healthcare system.
These reforms in a way seem very comprehensive and may indicate a long-term focus towards the improvement of health care status in Massachusetts, with possibilities empirically affecting population health in the state.
By this plan, Kogi State intends to revolutionize the primary healthcare delivery system and also ensure that quality medical services get to fifty per cent of the population of the state irrespective of the area of domicile.
