The Leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly has made a new realignment of its leadership Team; as Speaker, LASHA, Rt.Hon Lasbat Mojisola and announced appointments to new PIOs after dissolving the former committee.
To strengthen the House legislation procedures, the ex officio of the House has promoted Hon. Temitope Adedeji of Ifako Ijaye 1 Constituency to the important position of Minority Leader. This appointment then positions him to be at the centre of legislative handling and policies in the Assembly.
In addition to this appointment, the Ikeja 2 constituency is being represented by Hon. Richard Kasumu who adopted the responsibility of being a Deputy majority leader of the Assembly.
Hon Hafsat Moraki, representing Agege 2 constituency was appointed as the secretary of the new assembly Hon. David Setonji of the Badagry 2 constituency is the holder of the title ‘Chief Whip’ while Hon. Semiu Okanlawon of the Kosofe Constituency 1 moves as the ‘Deputy Chief Whip’.
These are also deliberate appointments of leadership positions in the various constituencies in Lagos State to have a wide cross-section of stakeholders in the Assembly.
This new team of legislators is composed of persons with several years of legislative experience drawn from different parts of the state placing the Assembly in better stead to effectively and efficiently respond to the needs of the people of Lagos.
The reform of the principal officers heralded what many observers saw as a mission to convert the House on legislative productivity and performance. Every appointed officer has his or her views from his or her constituencies, which might have an added value in the process of legislation.
A new leadership team is expected, inter alia, to set an agenda of the Assembly, supervise and coordinate the legislative processes and functions, as well as promote an effective interface between the two arms of government in Lagos State.
Due to their experience as well as their precise understanding of the needs of their constituencies, members of the Parliament will be in good standing to enhance the growth of the biggest city in Africa through lawmaking and supervisory roles.
This is a new dawn in the affairs of the Lagos State House of Assembly as the newly appointed officers are expected to provide the needed leadership towards the provision of effective and efficient political leadership to enable the House to effectively discharge the constitutionally -mandated duties of representing the people of Lagos State.
