Adekunle Gold Joins ‘The Odyssey’ as Co-Producer, Documenting Century of Yoruba Musical Heritage

Nigerian star singer Adekunle Gold started making movies through his documentary project called “The Odyssey.” The documentary seeks to tell the history of Yoruba music since 1900 plus explain how this style impacts modern Afrobeats.

The team behind the documentary film aims to preserve and honor Yoruba music heritage while showing how it shaped African music today. Under the direction of filmmaker Abba T. Makama the team consisting of executive producer Bobo Omotayo and producers Papa Omotayo and Tosin Ashafa developed this production.

In “The Odyssey” the team aims to track how Yoruba music developed from old traditions until it shaped Afrobeats worldwide. Through its documentary content, the project helps young people discover their musical roots which developed the dominant sounds we hear today.

The project’s mission is to securely store and display Yoruba music heritage to help modern and future audiences understand its history and effect on contemporary music across the world.
