The factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has categorically debunked rumors that he has dumped FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the raging political crisis in the state.
Policy and political realignment became the topic of discussion when a picture of Okocha alongside Obio/Akpor Local Government Area Chairman, Chijioke Ihunwo was allegedly spread on the social media.
Through his Special Assistant on Media, Vincent Gbosi, Okocha categorically rejected these claims, characterizing them as “cheap and infantile propaganda sponsored by political neophytes and promoted by their clueless followers on social media.”
In an elaborate explanation, Okocha’s office responded to the image that has been circulating around the internet and confirmed that it is a fake. “The purveyors of the allegation cooked up a story with a photoshopped picture,” the statement declared, emphasizing that any suggestion of a courtesy visit to Ihunwo was “clueless, unthinkable, unimaginable, inconceivable, and demeaning.”
The development takes place at the backdrop of a serious political cleavage in Rivers State whereby many politicians are either with Fubara or Wike; some are in the middle. The governor also retains his set Rivers state representative position in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The statement concluded by urging the public to disregard the allegations, affirming that such a political meeting “never happened, and will never happen,”
