Kaduna BRT construction projects will start their operations in March 2022 to improve the public transit infrastructure of the state.
The Kaduna State Government has planned to build a 24-kilometer Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route connecting Kawo Bridge with Sabon Tasha.
During his recent media briefing Inuwa Ibrahim confirmed that KADSTRA would establish this initiative as Director General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority.
The project development targets two objectives which involve reducing traffic congestion and improving transportation systems throughout urban areas.
KADSTRA represents the official groundbreaking event for the Southern Terminal BRT set to take place on March 11 at the Kaduna Line depot.
Hence, the planned BRT route will contain special transportation lanes alongside carefully located bus stops and contemporary waiting shelters.
The implemented design elements create better transportation security and reliability features for users.
The transformational project receives robust support from Governor Uba Sani and his government administration.
The Kaduna State government made a ₦97 million counterpart investment before establishing a ₦699 million allocation in the 2024 budget to speed up project execution.
Additional counterpart funding amounting to ₦5 billion exists within the ₦30 billion budget allocation that was approved for 2025.
The Kaduna BRT project leads Kaduna towards implementing a contemporary transportation system built from efficient and climate-friendly solutions.
Through this initiative Kaduna residents will benefit from improved mobility and economic growth and new employment options will appear.
A team representing KADSTRA traveled to Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) in January 2025 for BRT best practice research regarding procurement and operational methods.
The BRT development in Kaduna State worked to progress the implementation of its BRT system through this site visit.
The project receives worldwide backing. AFD stands as the financial backer for the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit Project.
The international partnership demonstrates how the sustainable public transport system’s main objective becomes accessibility and mobility delivery through this project.
The BRT infrastructure contains 30 universally accessible stations with secure pedestrian crossings.
There’s also an integral clean ground site and public lighting and bridge expansion over Kaduna River.
In addition, there’s a high-capacity drainage system running along the corridor and park-and-ride facilities and a control room.
The decisive management of Governor Sani made it possible to finally bring this project into reality.
The administration has provided financial backing which has allowed the project to move forward despite prolonged planning and delays.
The Kaduna BRT construction project leads toward a paradigm shift in public transportation services by providing residents with an improved transportation system.
The ongoing project will become a standard for other national initiatives of its kind.
