The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) warns about escalating political tensions in Rivers alongside Osun and Lagos states because these situations constitute substantial risks to Nigerian democracy.
The national chairman of ZLP Chief Dan Nwanyanwu pointed out that political associates of President Bola Tinubu intensify political tensions to benefit themselves at the expense of democratic foundations nationwide.
These political disputes reached their peak level in the past few weeks as state political organizations battle for control of major political structures that will determine the 2027 elections.
The situation needs urgent resolution to stop a return to past conflicts because Nwanyanwu linked this moment to the “Wild Wild West” and oil-rich Niger Delta violence from earlier periods.
The ZLP chairman focused specifically on Rivers State members of the State Assembly who shifted to another party after their initial electoral party since there was no national division.
The ZLP chairman opposed these defections in law and condemned how politicians tried to undo their affidavits of defection because he saw these tactics as privileged abuse that led to financial problems and other ongoing issues.
Nwanyanwu requested President Tinubu to take immediate action by finding political resolutions to stop the crises from worsening further.
He emphasized that resolving the disputes peacefully would protect the fundamental principles of Nigeria’s democracy particularly because democratic practices already encounter difficulties in that area.
The ZLP delivers this warning to show both the fragile political system of Nigeria and the vital requirement for proactive actions to prevent personal ambitions from causing democratic institution instability.
