South Africa’s Bafana Bafana B team secured a vital 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in the 2025 COSAFA Cup, reigniting their hopes of reaching the tournament’s semifinals.
The match, held at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein, saw goals from Kabelo Dlamini and Ime Okon, marking the team’s first victory in the competition.
Dlamini opened the scoring with a penalty just before halftime, following a foul on forward Masindi Nemtajela.
In the 78th minute, defender Ime Okon doubled the lead with a powerful header from a well-delivered free-kick by Gape Moralo.
The win places South Africa second in Group A, trailing Mozambique, who lead with four points after a draw against Mauritius.
Bafana Bafana must now defeat Mauritius in their final group match on Tuesday at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium to secure a spot in the semifinals.
Coach Vela Khumalo praised his team’s performance, highlighting the contributions of players like Boitumelo Radiopane, Kamogelo Sebelebele, and Siphesihle Mkhize.
Nemtajela, in particular, impressed by winning the penalty and consistently challenging Zimbabwe’s defense.
With only the group winners advancing to the semifinals, the upcoming match against Mauritius is crucial for Bafana Bafana’s continued success in the tournament.
