The origin of Afro Dancehall is now the center of attention.
Black Mexxiah, a Reggae-dancehall veteran has come out.
According to him, he and Samini, not Stonebwoy, initially used the term (He told SammyFlex TV).
According to Black Mexxiah, he incorporated Afrobeat, reggae and dancehall way earlier than Stonebwoy came to Asaase Ase Records.
He remembered when he proposed the name Afro Dancehall to Samini when describing their sound.
In his opinion, Samini took up the label early.
Stonebwoy would later on join their Highgrade Family camp. Black ‛Mexxiah says Stonebwoy was inspired by his 1999 Afro-reggae dancehall song, Gblegble Vi
In the meantime, Stonebwoy has on numerous occasions given himself the credit to popularizing the Afro Dancehall across the world.
Entertainment analysts justify his position, giving him credit of having taken the genre to global platforms- yet acknowledging the fact that Samini had already planted the seeds in advance.
The question on who actually coined Afro Dancehall is now being debated by fans and critics.
Did it originate in the genre, Black Mexxiah, or did it originate globally, Stonebwoy? It is a consensus that the true story is in the cooperation and development of the music.
