Nigerian singer Portable has reacted to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death with an emotional yet puzzling social media post that blended mourning with cryptic security references.

Portable shared a tearful video saying “Buhari was my father” before making vague claims about “orders” and “tollgate shootings.”

In his Instagram post, Portable wrote: “Na order be this. RIP Buhari. Tollgate shooting never forget.” The ambiguous statement has left fans speculating whether he was referencing Buhari’s tough stance on #EndSARS protests or simply expressing grief incoherently

The singer later clarified in Yoruba: “I’m mourning, but the truth must be told about past events.” This comes three years after Portable was briefly detained following a controversial encounter with police at a Lagos tollgate.

Political commentators note the timing is sensitive, as Buhari’s handling of the 2020 protests remains controversial. Security analyst Kabiru Adamu warns: “Celebrities should be careful not to incite tensions during national mourning.”

As Nigeria mourns its former leader, Portable’s unconventional reaction adds another layer to the complex public perceptions of Buhari’s legacy.
The singer’s camp confirms he’ll release a “special tribute song” this weekend.
