Former Ledzokuku Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mordecai Quarshie has called on the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to grant President John Dramani Mahama at least one year in office before launching criticism or making public comparisons.

Quarshie, once affiliated with the NPP, now urges a more measured approach from his former party, emphasizing that quick judgments are premature and unhelpful.

He suggested that instead of immediate backlash, the party should focus on revitalizing itself, strengthening internal structures, and reconnecting with its founding ideals of public service.

“Let Mahama work for a year before comparing,” Quarshie stated, underscoring the importance of giving the president time to implement policies and demonstrate results.

The appeal comes amid growing political tension, with the NPP increasingly vocal in its criticism of Mahama’s leadership and policies. Quarshie, addressing stakeholders, emphasized that political unity and credible internal reforms are foundational steps for any effective opposition strategy.

His remarks highlight a broader conversation on Ghana’s democratic maturity. With many commentators calling for patience and long-term evaluation of political performance, Quarshie’s counsel for a fairer timeline may resonate among those weary of immediate partisan attacks.
