Social media critic Verydarkman has taken a swipe at Afrobeats star Wizkid following his recent comparison of himself with late music legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, as he reveals how Wizkid allegedly sampled his first hit track, “Holla at your boy”.

In his reaction, Verydarkman argued that Wizkid lacks the level of originality associated with Fela and even Fela’s sons, Femi and Seun Kuti.

He questioned Wizkid’s artistic depth, particularly his stage performances, which he described as heavily dependent on backing tracks rather than live delivery.

VeryDarkMan further alleged that Wizkid’s music career was built largely on sampling existing songs, claiming that many of his early works were not entirely original.

He referenced Wizkid’s debut era, insisting that several of his songs were inspired by or lifted from earlier records.

According to him, comparing Wizkid to Fela is misplaced, as Fela’s music was rooted in originality, activism, and live performance, qualities he believes Wizkid does not embody in the same way.

His words,

“For you to say you’re bigger than Fela, you no even reach Femi or even the Seun sef when it comes to the art of music, because originality is not in you.

You don see where these men the perform for stage?

No be the one sound the play for background you go dey jump for stage, when your mouth no even dey follow wetin you dey perform.

We are old school people. You started your career without originality.

This is your first song Hala at your boy you sampled. The original one was in 2009 and yours was released in 2011.

If them bring songs wey you sample e go full everywhere. You are bigger than which Fela…”

Wizkid wey no even reach Uncle Femi amd Seun Kuti when it comes to art of music is saying he's bigger than Fela, you started your music career without an originality" — Verydarkman says as he brings out Wizkid "Holla At Your Boy" that was sampled pic.twitter.com/SVxOYPwOlI
