Veteran Nigerian folk singer Beautiful Nubia has publicly accused two gospel musicians of copying melodies from his original song.

In a strongly worded post on Instagram, the acclaimed songwriter alleged that parts of his track Seven Lives were used without his approval.

He said the first alleged case happened in 2012, referencing gospel artist Yinka Ayefele and his song My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti) released that year.

According to Beautiful Nubia, the melody of the song was taken from Seven Lives.

“There was Yinka Ayefele with ‘My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)’ in 2012,” he wrote.

The singer also mentioned a more recent track titled Amin, performed by BBO.“Now someone called BBO with Amin this year,” he added.

Beautiful Nubia insisted that both songs borrowed heavily from his original composition.

In a blunt remark that has since gained attention online, he questioned the integrity of musicians, especially those in the gospel genre.

He asked:

“When will Nigerians (especially so-called gospel singers) learn to respect copyright? Stealing na stealing, e no get another name. Well, you could call it thievery.”
