The Country was full of happiness and joy on Monday as many citizens trooped out to express their heartfelt joy and celebrate their national team’s victory at the just concluded AFCON.
The atmosphere was light up by the citizens in the orange and white colour of the national team as the parade of the team was cheered on with dances, praises, whistles and vuvuzelas.
The players showed off their medals with excitement while waving their hands as the victory parade was passing through the streets to the Félix-Houphouët-Boigny Stadium where the celebration took off.
They won the title as they came from a goal down to defeat the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a 2-1 enthralling encounter at the Alassane Quatara Stadium, Abidjan.
Nobody saw them in the final at the first round of the competition after they lost two games which led to the firing of their manager. As life would have it, they turned the tide around with comeback wins over former Champions Senegal and Mali in the knockout phases.
Emerse Faé is the first interim coach to win an AFCON tournament, taking over the team at the mid-tournament.
Haller took care of DR Congo in the Semis for the Elephants, did the same in the final against the Super Eagles with 2 winning goals consecutively.
The Borussia Dortmund forward was emotional after the victory. He had just recovered from testicular cancer, which almost ended his football life a year later to becoming a gold medalist at the 2023 AFCON.
Ivory Coast midfielder, Seko Fofana, after the game said he hopes that everyone enjoys the euphoria because things like that don’t show up every day.
