Decorating candles with flowers is an interesting do it yourself activity that brings flowers and the pleasant light of candles together.
Altogether these candles can be used as souvenirs or house accessories especially when a particular occasion is being celebrated. Here’s a how to guide to help create your own elegant floral candles.
Supplies Needed
- Dried, pressed flowers: You can choose your favourite flowers for decoration.
- Wax: It is recommended that you can melt paraffin wax or soy wax but opt for the later since it burns cleaner.
- Cotton wicks: They must ordinarily fit your container size.

- Essential oils: Optional 30-40 drops for scent.
- Containers: Two containers: One is the 8-ounce glasses or [see-through container]; another one is the slightly narrow glass container.
- Double boiler or Pyrex measuring cup: For melting the wax.
- Thermometer (optional): To monitor wax temperature.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare the Wax
They add 1-2 cups of wax for one or two candles respectively. If soy wax is for the center then melt that first by putting it in a Pyrex measuring cup into a saucepan containing water. It should be simmered until fully melted to a low heat.
2. Add Fragrance
If you want scented candles – the best and most effective way is to add the melted wax essential oils and stir them well
3. Secure the Wick
Take a wick and place it in the middle of your second, but narrower glass jar. Afterwards, use a clothespin to keep it fixed as you pour molten wax into it. Pour this into this container and put it in the freezer for about 45 minutes to 1 hour or until fully chilled.
4. Create the Candle Base
After cooling it, it is advisable to pull the candle away from the second, narrower container. Put it in the middle of your larger clear plastic measuring cup equivalent to 8 ounces.
5. Add Dried Flowers
Place dried flowers around the candle in between the candle and the glass of the bigger receptacle. This puts an artistic appearance when lit.
6. Final Pour
Dissolve any wax left at the bottom of the pot (You can use paraffin if you used soy wax for the first pour) and pour it over the candles making sure that the flowers are well coated. Let this layer cool to room temperature before lighting.
7. Trim and Enjoy
After it is fully melted, remove the wick’s excess length which should be adjusted to a half-inch from the wax line when burning your candle.
Tips for Success
- Only use dried flowers, because fresh flowers retain moisture and this will cause the candle to have the wrong colour or even become a males
- The flower type and essential oils may be changed to achieve new smells and looks.
- You might also want to add a tint to the wax or use dyes to glamorize your candles.
