Yesterday we said we believe. Today, let’s be honest about responsibility.

In Nigeria, we blame Aso Rock for everything. No road in my street – na Tinubu. School no get roof – na President. But that is NOT how federation works. And that is why we stay stuck.

Let’s talk about money – FAAC. This is where the money goes every month:

From the Federation Account (oil, Company Income Tax, Customs):

  • Federal Government: 52.68%
  • State Governments: 26.72% – shared among 36 states
  • Local Governments: 20.60% – shared among 774 LGAs
  • Plus 13% Derivation: An extra 13% of oil money goes straight to oil-producing states before sharing – Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Edo, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Anambra.

From VAT (the money you pay when you buy something):

NEW from January 2026 under the National Tax Acts:

  • FG: 10% | States: 55% | LGs: 35%
    Old formula was 15% / 50% / 35%. States now take more.

Translation: Since subsidy removal, FAAC has more than doubled. Your State now gets almost double what it got in 2022. So ask – where is the money?

Now, who should do what for your daily life?

  • Federal (52.68% of FAAC): Army, Police, Immigration, Passport, Foreign Affairs, Trunk A roads like Lagos-Ibadan, CBN, fuel import policy.
  • State (26.72% + 55% of VAT + IGR): This is 45% of your daily life. Your secondary school, General Hospital, state roads, waste, land, business permits. Your Governor controls MORE money than you think.
  • Local Government (20.60% + 35% of VAT): This is 35% but we ignore them. Primary school, Primary Health Centre (PHC), street lights, local roads, drainage, birth certificate, local market. Supreme Court in July 2024 said LG money must go DIRECT to LGAs.
  • You — The Citizen: Pay tax, obey law, vote wisely, hold them accountable, keep your street clean, don’t give or take bribe. Government no be father, na servant.

A better Nigeria will NOT come because we changed President alone. It will come when we start asking:

“Your Excellency, you collected N8bn FAAC this month, where is our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR?)”
“Chairman, our Public health Centre (PHC) is locked, drainage is blocked – where is our 20.60%?”

If your state cannot pay salary but Governor buys new SUVs for 40 aides, na who you go hold? Not Aso Rock.

Your task today: Google 2 things – 1) Your LGA Chairman’s name 2) Your State’s FAAC allocation last month. Screenshot it, post it. Knowledge is power.
