Ghana and Morocco have agreed to waive visa requirements for all travelers between the two countries, aiming to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa plans to present the Ghana and Morocco agreement for both parliamentary ratifications within the upcoming weeks.
Minister Ablakwa alongside Imane Ouaadil the Moroccan ambassador to Ghana made progress in developing agribusiness and tourism initiatives with security enhancement through an accord between the two countries after their talks.
Minister Ablakwa reported that Ambassador Ouaadil disproved the social media allegations which claimed 700 Africans died in Morocco.
He indicated that the border accident video which led to 23 deaths occurred in June 2022 while confirming no Ghanaians lost their lives.
To enhance diplomatic relations, Morocco has raised its annual scholarship allocation for Ghanaian students from 90 to 180.
The agreement becomes part of an African initiative to ease border crossings and therefore, advance intra-continental economic unification.
The announcement of visa-free entry by Kenya followed new bilateral visa-free deals between African countries which aim to increase tourism and trade activities.
The visa waiver between Ghana and Morocco will support better diplomatic relationships and create new economic possibilities while strengthening cultural dialogue between the two countries.
