FG to enhance surveillance at Nigeria’s ports and borders, intensifying efforts to combat illegal wildlife trafficking and protect biodiversity.

The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has announced plans to enhance surveillance at the nation’s ports and borders to combat illegal wildlife trafficking.

The initiative operates within worldwide programs dedicated to biodiversity conservation and environmental preservation and protection of wildlife in line with international wildlife protection agreements.

The FG announces this decision because of increasing worries about wildlife trafficking effects on endangered species and ecosystems.

This improved monitoring system will make use of state-of-the-art equipment while implementing rigorous protocols alongside international partner organization collaboration.

By utilizing this method Nigeria seeks to both prevent smugglers from continuing their activities and keep compliant with CITES rules.

The program makes use of advanced surveillance equipment which comprises drones together with scanners and biometric identification systems.

These security tools are predicted to boost the capacity of authorities for fast interception and detection of illegal wildlife shipments at borders.

The FG intends to collaborate with neighbors and international organizations for intelligence sharing and enhanced law enforcement as well as prosecution of criminals.

Customs officers and border personnel will receive specialized training that builds their competencies in dealing with wildlife trafficking incidents.
