The U-16 women’s national team of Ghana started the UEFA International Development Tournament with strength by earning an 8-1 win against Malta in their first match.
The match occurred at the Centenary Stadium in Ta’ Qali-Attard Malta where the Ghanaian youth team started the competition with a remarkable performance.
At the start of their match, the Black Damsels showed enthusiasm by scoring first in the 14th minute. A Malta penalty kicked during the 30th minute allowed the team to tie the game until Ghana scored their immediate response one minute later.
During the second half period, the Ghanaians controlled the game which resulted in six additional goals enabling an 8-1 final score.
The competition functions as a valuable occasion for Ghanaian players to develop their international playing experience. The team consisting of 20 players with seven officials traveled to Malta on March 3rd 2025 before the beginning of the tournament from March 3rd to 9th.
The competition brings together participants from Latvia and Ireland together with Malta which gives the young Ghanaians a competitive mix of opponents.
The UEFA International Development Tournament matches the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) objective to strengthen youth development interests. When facing European teams in competitions the U-16 women’s squad develops essential experience that helps them become more prepared for future events.
The Ghana ladies’ national team faces Ireland on March 6 followed by Latvia on March 9 at the Centenary Stadium after their Malta triumph. The upcoming matches represent additional international opportunities for the team to demonstrate their abilities while experiencing further testing of their skills.
