The government stands firmly behind this initiative according to Erastus Haitengela who leads the Ministry of Sport. Haitengela stresses that the president-elect has sports development as one of Namibia’s central advancement tools in his manifesto. The sport infrastructure targets the stadiums located at Independence Stadium in Windhoek and facilities based in Oshakati and used across coastal areas. The future development of CAF Level 2 stadiums in different regions aims to expand sports development throughout the country.

Major updates are planned for the centerpiece facility of this development which is the Independence Stadium. Haitengela mentioned that the stakeholders consisting of ministry officials together with NFA members and sports community members are reviewing the feasibility study for approval. The project will proceed to design development after official approval and the subsequent tendering phase.

Government funds worth N$124 million appeared in the development budget for the 2024/25 fiscal year financial plan. The government funding covers both the Independence Stadium and national sports facilities and youth centers across the country.

Although consistent progress has occurred the path to completion has presented several obstacles. Delays in the Independence Stadium procurement process emerged because of administrative problems and disagreements between possible bidders. Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed his disapproval toward the Ministry of Sport, Youth, and National Service due to their inadequate progress. The ministry has made a commitment to quicken renovation work that will match national development targets.

The major goal behind these facility enhancements aims to create a thriving sports environment for Namibian athletes by establishing premier athletic grounds while targeting international sports events for the country. The government targets sports infrastructure development to unite the nation through sports while boosting tourism and related sector activity and increasing national pride.

Namibia actively improves its sports facilities while building sports infrastructure because the policies follow a long-term plan to combine sports with national development goals. Multiple stakeholders working together will make Namibia into an internationally recognized sports hub in its regional arena.
