Tinubu’s administration has started working the talk by reducing cost of governance. As a result, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given the approval for the merging, scrapping and subsuming of some government agencies and Ministries.
Special Adviser to the president on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman disclosed this at the second FEC meeting of the year.
This is coming as a reaction to Steve Oronsaye’s Report on the civil service that came to life during Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in 2014.
The agencies that would undergo merger are as follows;
-Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria will merge with the Voice of Nigeria.
-National Commission for Museum and Monuments will merge with The National Gallery of Art.
-National Theatre will also merge with National Troupe of Nigeria.
-National Meteorological Development Centre will have a merger with the National Meteorological Training Institute.
-National Agency for Control of HIV/AIDS (NACA) will also be merging with the Centre for Disease Control in the Federal Ministry of Health in the Federal Ministry of Health.
-National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will merge with the National Commission for Refugee Migration and Internally Displaced Persons.
-The directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa is merging with the Directorate of Technical Aid and the merger would be supervised my the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
-Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission is merging with Bureau for Public Enterprises.
-Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission will merge with Nigeria Export Council.
-National Agency for Science and Technology and Technology and Engineering Infrastructure will merge with National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation and the Project Development Institute.
-National Biotechnology Development is merging with National Centre for Genetic Resource and Biotechnology.
-National Institute for Leather Science Technology will be merging with the National Institute for Chemical Technology.
-Nomadic Education Commission is merging with the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult Education and Non-Formal Education.
-Nigerian Army University will have a merger with the Nigerian Defence Academy and the merger would function as a faculty in the Nigerian Defence Academy.
-Air Force Institute of Technology will also be merging with the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Agencies that will be subsumed
-Service Compact with Nigeria (SERVICOM) will be functioning as a department under the Bureau of Public Service Reform.
-Border Communities Development Agency is subsumed to function as a department under the National Boundary Commission.
-National Salaries Income and Wages Commission will be working under the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission
-Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution will be subsumed under the Institute of International Affairs.
-The Public Complaints Commission to be subsumed under the National Human Rights Commission.
-Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis will be subsumed into the Institute for Veterinary Research.
-The National Development Agency will be subsumed into the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development.
-National Intelligence Agency Pension Commission to be subsumed under the Nigerian Pension Commission.
Agencies to be relocated;
-Niger Delta Power Holding Company to be relocated to the Ministry of Power
-National Agricultural Land Development Agency to be moved to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
-National Blood Service would be changed into agency and be moved to the Federal Ministry of Health.
-Nigeria Diaspora Commission will be converted into an agency and be relocated to the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Lastly, the aide said the President has set up a committee that would work in the space of 3 months to make sure these changes get the necessary and legislative backing.
