It originated from the region of the Eastern part of South America, a place known for wild species of plants. Groundnuts were cultivated in pre-Columbian native societies of Peru as early as 3000 BC.

Furthermore, groundnuts are rich in Beta-Sitosterol which works against cancer and reduces cholesterol levels. It also contains resveratrol, an antioxidant Vitamin E, which neutralizes harmful radicals, stresses and also maintains cell membrane integrity.
