Money can’t buy it, according to Reminisce — and he’s not talking about cars or luxury.

The Nigerian rap veteran raised eyebrows when he audaciously declared that no amount of money that a rapper makes can buy him or her respect in hip-hop.

Reminisce stressed that only authenticity is credible, but not wealth.

He noted that certain rappers remain stuck in old school boom-bap styles and forget about the dynamic nature of the genre.

In his opinion, this unwillingness to change is making the rap scene smaller and steering the audience to Afrobeats.

He did not spare the questioning of the actual impact of the modern-day popular rappers. Can you fill a hall, he said, when you say you have fans?

His remarks elicited a heated response on the internet with many concurring that respect in hip-hop is something that cannot be purchased.

The words of Reminisce are the wake-up call to rappers who are more interested in image rather than legacy.

To him, true rap needs culture, development and true endorsement, and not streams and money.
