Soldiers protect Awujale burial ceremonies after deploying to prevent disruption attempts.

Military personnel secured the Ijebu-Ode palace grounds where traditionalists had threatened to protest.

The intervention came when information about groups opposing the burial plans were circulated.
Authorities confirmed the military acted on state government orders to maintain peace.

Witnesses reported tense moments as armed troops formed barricades. “They stopped protesters 500 meters from the royal court,” Chief Olu Okeowo told journalists.

The late Awujale’s family expressed gratitude. “We needed this protection to bury our father properly,” said Prince Adetunji Adesanya. Traditional rites proceeded without further interruption.

State Commissioner for Culture explained the sensitivity. “The Awujale’s burial follows centuries-old customs that must be respected,” he stated. Police had earlier warned against disruptions.

Some traditionalists claimed their concerns were ignored. “We only wanted proper consultation,” argued Chief Adebanjo Alausa. Community leaders are now mediating the dispute.

Governor Abiodun appealed for calm, promising investigations into the underlying grievances. The state will cover all burial expenses as mark of respect.
