Nigerian rapper CDQ (Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf) has shared insight into why he turned down an opportunity from Davido to join the HKN Gang.
In a recent interview, CDQ revealed that Davido reached out to discuss signing him under the label, but he ultimately declined due to his contractual commitment with Masterkraft’s General Records, which he had signed in 2013
CDQ described the offer as one of the most unexpected moments in his career and said he felt honored that Davido had even considered him.
However, loyalty and ongoing obligations made it impossible for him to accept the deal
He reflected on the period as joyful and surprising, but also reaffirmed his appreciation for his path under General Records, which produced his breakout hit “Indomie” featuring Olamide
CDQ’s decision underscores integrity, showing that long-term vision and respect for existing partnerships sometimes supersede high-profile opportunities.
His career since has continued independently, under his own label, No Struggle No Success Entertainment, further cementing his autonomy in the Nigerian music industry.
