Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as Kwam 1, has publicly apologised for the incident that disrupted operations at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
In his statement, he described the entire episode as “unfortunate” and said:
“I sincerely regret it.”
Kwam 1 clarified that the flask in contention contained water, not alcohol, and was meant to address his chronic dehydration,a medical condition prompting his doctor to advise constant hydration.
He noted that the container was empty during security checks and only filled at the lounge, a fact that can reportedly be verified via CCTV footage.
Expressing remorse, Kwam 1 extended a formal apology to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, and Nigerians at large. He emphasized that the incident did not reflect his lifelong dedication to promoting Nigeria’s culture and reputation.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has filed petitions with both the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police for thorough investigation and possible prosecution. The agency also encouraged airlines to consider placing Kwam 1 on a no-fly list until inquiries conclude.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, though aware of the apology, stated that no decision has been made regarding Kwam 1’s fate. He reasserted that the matter remains under official consideration.
