Drama has erupted in Ghana’s music scene after celebrated gospel singer Empress Gifty revealed shocking details about a humiliating deportation from the United Kingdom.
In a TikTok live session on August 12, 2025, the “Watch Me” hitmaker recounted her first UK trip, which turned disastrous. She explained that a fellow gospel musician had invited her but refused to answer calls upon her arrival.
“When I got to the airport, immigration asked me who I was visiting, and I mentioned her name. They told me to call her, but after several calls from morning to evening, she never picked up,” Gifty said.
According to her, UK immigration even contacted the woman repeatedly, but the silence continued. Efforts by then-Ghanaian foreign minister Hannah Tetteh to intervene failed.
“They said unless the girl picked up, I couldn’t be allowed in. Eventually, they cancelled my two-year visa and sent me back to Ghana,” she added.
The gospel singer said the incident was a calculated act to embarrass her, claiming some people in the industry deliberately try to bring others down.
