Nigeria has evacuated its first Ebola patient in the current outbreak to Switzerland.
But while the patient is receiving treatment abroad, health authorities are still monitoring 52 people who may have been exposed to the virus.
Does her evacuation mean Nigeria is safe from Ebola?

Health Minister Muhammad Pate said she was stable, conscious and able to communicate. Her husband, a Swiss diplomat who showed no symptoms, accompanied her.

What Happens To 52 Contacts?
The woman was admitted to Geneva University Hospital, while her husband was isolated at Zurich University Hospital. However, Pate warned that her improved condition did not necessarily mean she was no longer infectious.
According to the World Health Organization’s Regional Director for Africa, Mohamed Janabi, Nigeria currently has no Ebola cases following the evacuation. But the country’s response is not over.
The 52 contacts remain under monitoring because Ebola symptoms can take between two and 21 days to appear after exposure. Health officials must monitor these individuals, assess their exposure and respond immediately if anyone develops symptoms.
Being identified as a contact does not mean someone has Ebola. It means health authorities are taking precautions to detect possible infections early and prevent further transmission.

Is Nigeria Out Of Danger?
Not necessarily. The evacuation removes the confirmed patient from Nigeria, but it does not automatically eliminate the possibility that someone else was infected.
The coming days will be critical as authorities continue surveillance and monitor the contacts throughout the relevant observation period.
The key question is whether any of the 52 contacts develops symptoms.
If no further infections emerge and the monitoring period ends without evidence of transmission, that would strengthen confidence that the outbreak has been contained.
For now, Nigeria may have no confirmed Ebola cases within its borders, but vigilance remains essential.
