Nigeria, a nation that is filled with “honey”, agricultural resources and potentials, a grave crisis looms over its most fertile regions.
According to a recent report by the cableng, it stated the level of multidimensional poverty and how it is affecting key states known for their agricultural produce and their contributions to the supply of foods in the nation
However , it’s notably contradictory that all these key states, that seems to be feeding the country are still the poorest, states like, Sokoto, Bayelsa, Gombe, and others.
With 90.5% of Sokoto’s residents living in poverty, the implications for food security and national stability are terrible.
The statistics portray a very bad identity. Jigawa, Yobe, Gombe, Taraba, and Ebonyi, which are know for food supply in Nigeria are living in anguish with high level of poverty and insecurity.
These regions which are generally referred to as the food baskets of the nation, are faced with insecurity challenges, hindering farmers to cultivate lands, the fear of being ambushed by herdsmen and Boko-Haram.
This effect has not only threatened their livelihood, but it has caused great famine and food insecurity to the whole nation.
This crisis is not about political parties affiliation or the responsibility of the Government, it is not only for the Ruling party(APC) or the opposition parties ( PDP, ADC, and others). It is a national matter that needs our collective contributions and actions.
This insecurities that is facing all these mentioned states are not limited to their locality, but it has threatened Nigeria’ Sovereignty and self sufficiency.
As citizens of Nigeria, this is a call to face these challenges in unity, the survival of this nation depends on how we can all addresses this constant issues systematically.
The consequences of not taking action is severe and unbearable, if people are stuck up in their conveniences, the insecurity will spread like a cancer, causing a tumor that will eat up all the nation, regardless of the region, tribe or any political affiliation.
This is a moment for us to reflect, this crisis is not all about statistics, but a reality of millions lives. Every Nigerian should know that food scarcity and poverty are related, and they are threat to any nation
As we go through these hard times, we must be patriotic and prioritize the welfare of our people in the community and also the future of our nation.
This is a call to join our hearts and minds together in confronting the forces that seek to distabilize our agriculture resources and our country as a whole . If we can do this together, and wage war against these forces with determination, Nigeria will will be filled with hope and a better Tomorrow
