Adamawa Police Intercept Over 500 Suspicious Travellers From Niger Republic In Trucks

Panic swept through Adamawa State on Tuesday after security operatives intercepted two trailers loaded with about 550 travellers in what authorities described as a disturbing mass movement at a time the North is being battered by kidnappers, bandits, and cross-border armed groups.

The trailers, bearing registration numbers NNY 236 XA (Yobe) and GAS 330 XA (Taraba), were flagged down at the Numan Bridge, a major entry route into the state.

Their arrival sparked heightened alert among residents who say the region has become increasingly vulnerable due to porous borders and the unchecked flow of people and weapons.

FCT Minister Wike Orders Suspension Of Education Secretary Over School Closure Rumours

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has debunked reports claiming that all public schools in the FCT had been ordered to shut down, describing the announcement as false, misleading, and unauthorised.

In a statement issued by the Senior Special Adviser on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, the administration confirmed that the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate suspension of the Mandate Secretary for Education, Danlami Hayyo

The decision followed the circulation of an official memo announcing the closure of schools — an action the FCTA says did not receive ministerial approval.

According to Olayinka, the Acting Head of Service, Mrs Nancy Sabanti Nathan, has also been instructed to take disciplinary action against the Director of School Services, Mrs Aishatu Sani Alhassan, who issued the circular in violation of civil service rules.

Sowore Condemns DSS Over Continued Illegal Detention Of Lawyer Moses Oddiri, Demands Immediate Release

Former presidential candidate and human rights advocate, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the unlawful detention of a Lagos-based lawyer, Moses Oddiri, by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), allegedly acting on the instructions of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede.

Sowore, in a post on Wednesday, described the arrest and continued detention of Oddiri as another blatant abuse of power by security agencies that have turned themselves into instruments of oppression rather than institutions of law.

According to him, Oddiri has spent nearly two weeks in illegal custody after his arrest in Lagos, and was subsequently transferred to the DSS headquarters in Abuja, despite not being charged to court or granted access to due process.

The activist demanded Oddiri’s immediate and unconditional release.

Cut interest rates to boost production, manufacturers tell CBN

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria to further reduce interest rates, warning that the high cost of borrowing continues to hinder production and weaken competitiveness in the real sector.

MAN made the appeal in its reaction to the outcome of the Monetary Policy Committee meeting held on November 24 and 25, where the MPC retained the Monetary Policy Rate at 27 per cent.

After its 303rd meeting, the MPC also adjusted the Standing Facilities Corridor to +50/-450 basis points, retained the Cash Reserve Ratio at 45 per cent for commercial banks and 16 per cent for merchant banks, and left the liquidity ratio unchanged at 30 per cent.

The committee cited improving macroeconomic indicators, noting a continued slowdown in inflation, which it said decelerated to 16.05 per cent in October.
