Kunle Kuti, the second son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has expressed his disappointment over the ongoing disagreement between his family and Nigerian superstar Wizkid, emphasizing the high regard he has for the singer.

The remarks come amid rising tension between Wizkid and Seun Kuti, Fela’s youngest son, a situation that has sparked widespread discussion among fans and within the Nigerian music industry.

In an interview with Kola Olapoju of The Cable, Kunle shared that the feud saddens him, noting that comparing the two artists is unfair since they each bring distinct musical and cultural contributions.

Kunle also revealed that Wizkid is the only musician he has ever made a special effort to meet, motivated by his respect for the singer’s appreciation of Fela’s legacy.

Highlighting Wizkid’s tribute of tattooing Fela’s image on his arm, Kunle described it as a profound gesture of admiration, even exceeding the ways some of Fela’s own children have chosen to honour their father.

He pointed out that while none of Fela’s offspring have tattoos of him, Wizkid’s action reflects a unique and meaningful respect for the Afrobeat legend.

“I don’t want anybody to compare them. It’s two different things. I was heartbroken, like, Ah, what is this going on?

Wizkid is the only artist I’ve kind of begged people to meet in my life. To be honest, I’m telling you, because yeah, we’re close, right?

Even Sunday Are, I have begged him like, “Guy, I want to meet this guy (Wizkid),” to show you how much I love him.

For the fact that he has Fela’s tattoo on his arm, we, his kids, don’t even have our dad’s tattoo on us.”
