Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has weighed in on the ongoing debate between Kunle Afolayan and Funke Akindele regarding approaches to movie promotion, sharing her perspective through a subtle yet pointed post on social media.

The discussion, which has generated widespread attention in the film industry, revolves around whether dance skits and viral challenges are essential tools for marketing films in Nigeria.

The controversy began when Kunle Afolayan, during the premiere of his latest movie, stated that box office earnings in the billions meant little if they didn’t lead to significant personal gains.

His remarks followed the news that Funke Akindele’s film had crossed ₦2.4 billion, while Toyin Abraham’s production had also surpassed ₦1 billion at the Nigerian box office.

Although Afolayan didn’t mention anyone directly, the timing of his comments drew attention.

Akindele responded by urging colleagues to avoid jealousy, reminding the industry that there is space for everyone to succeed.

The debate escalated when Afolayan criticised the increasing use of dance routines and social media challenges to promote films a style closely linked with Akindele.

In response, she posted a video of herself dancing to promote her movie, prompting further discussion online.

Afolayan later clarified that he held no personal grudge against Akindele, mentioning that she had contacted him in frustration over the issue.

Meanwhile, Regina Chukwu shared a message emphasizing that success is cyclical and that filmmakers should concentrate on honing their craft.

Media entrepreneur Mo Abudu praised the creativity of Akindele and Abraham but noted that dancing wasn’t her own area of expertise.

Similarly, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde supported Afolayan’s stance, saying she dances only when she feels like it, not as a promotional requirement.

Adding her voice to the conversation, Iyabo Ojo posted on Instagram on Friday, 6 February 2026, noting that jealousy is often the final stage before turning bitter.

She encouraged colleagues to focus on their own strategies and allow others to succeed in their own way, stressing that the industry has no strict rules and that everyone should do what works best for them.

“Jealousy is the last class to attend before becoming a witch”“Who made the rules?

Nobody you gotta answer to. 2026 ain’t for talkers it’s for doers. Do what works for YOU.

Let others win their way. You win yours. Period. “
