The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reportedly banned cash bouquets, classifying them as illegal, placing them under offenses such as defacing or tampering with naira notes.

The move comes just days before Valentine’s Day, leaving many lovers searching for alternative ways to express their affection.

Under the CBN Act, anyone caught tampering with the national currency including using money to create bouquets faces a minimum of six months in prison or a fine of at least ₦50,000.

Authorities stated that the law is aimed at protecting the integrity of the naira and preventing misuse.

The bank has urged Nigerians to avoid using cash in bouquets and report any violations.

Enforcement agencies are expected to step up actions nationwide, making it risky for anyone planning to gift

The news sparked reactions online, with users taking to social media to share their reactions.Many joked about switching to flowers or chocolates instead of cash bouquets.
