Kano State authorities have ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment hubs, including event centres, gala houses, and DJ operations across the state.

The Kano State Censorship Board announced the directive on Tuesday, emphasising that the measure takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will last throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the Board’s Public Relations Officer, explained that the closures aim to allow residents to observe fasting and religious activities peacefully.

He noted that the decision aligns with the agency’s mandate to regulate entertainment venues and ensure public compliance with state laws governing leisure activities.

The board also reassured residents that the date for reopening, particularly for Eid celebrations, will be communicated in due course.

The Censorship Board urged all operators and stakeholders in the entertainment sector to adhere strictly to the closure order.

The agency highlighted that compliance is critical to maintaining public order and facilitating a tranquil environment for spiritual observance.

In its statement, the Board prayed for a safe and blessed Ramadan, encouraging residents to use the period for reflection, prayer, and community engagement.

The move has been met with mixed reactions online, with some supporting the emphasis on religious observance, while others questioned the impact on local businesses.

Authorities, however, have reiterated that the measure is temporary and intended to respect the sanctity of the fasting period.
