Super Falcons Set to Face Benin Republic in Final Round of WAFCON 2026 Qualifiers

The Nigeria's Super Falcons will compete against Benin Republic in October 2025 for participation in the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations after Benin Republic secured their victory through aggregate points against Sierra Leone.

The national women’s football team of Nigeria known as the Super Falcons will engage in a deciding sequence of WAFCON 2026 qualifiers against Benin Republic. The upcoming match occurs after Benin Republic successfully defeated Sierra Leone with a 5-2 aggregate score during the first qualification round.

The last phase of qualification will span from October 20 through October 28 2025. Both matches of the decisive qualifier will start in Benin Republic before the Super Falcons return to play in Nigeria. Winning on aggregate in this contest earns a team entry into the 2026 WAFCON tournament.

With nine WAFCON championship victories under their belt, the Super Falcons work towards regaining their status as a continent-leading club. The team achieved a victory during the 2018 competition and aims to recover their champion status which was lost in the 2022 tournament.

Head coach Randy Waldrum believes his team has done appropriate preparation while boasting selection flexibility to earn qualification for WAFCON which will restore their national pride and uphold their championship track record.

The women’s national team of Benin Republic known as the Amazons is currently witnessing a revival in terms of performance. Their dominant victories against Sierra Leone both at Stade Kégué and in the return match have elevated their team morale. As led by coach Oumar Tchomogo, the team strives to reach their historic WAFCON tournament qualifying goal.

The upcoming match serves two functions it determines tournament qualification status and it continues the intense football competition between Nigeria and Benin Republic in the region. Before each fixture, both Nigerian and Beninese fans display strong enthusiasm about the upcoming matches while hoping to witness outstanding performances from their teams.

Both teams increase their preparation efforts before the approaching October matches. Team cohesion training along with tactical drills will be the main focus during a training camp for the Super Falcons. During their preparation, the Amazons will play friendly games to refine their tactical setup and capitalize on their recent wins.

Both teams will battle each other twice to choose one country for the 2026 WAFCON competition as they face off against each other in an intense series.
