Maersk launches new Senegal warehouse, strengthening West Africa’s logistics network and supporting growing intra-continental trade demand.

Maersk has inaugurated a new 15,000-square-meter warehouse near Dakar’s port, marking a strategic push into West Africa’s booming logistics sector.

The new facility will provide service to Senegal and the landlocked neighbors of Mali and Burkina Faso.

The $20 million investment features:

  • Temperature-controlled zones for pharmaceuticals
  • Digital inventory management systems

The Trade Minister of Senegal Alioune Sarr commended the project which makes Dakar an ECOWAS trade entry point.

The AfCFTA trade agreement creates increased regional business between countries while Senegal sees its annual import growth reaching 12 percent.

The West Africa lead from Maersk Michel Koffi stated that the new facility reduced delivery times to Bamako from 14 days to only 5.

The move counters rival CMA CGM’s recent Ivory Coast expansion.

The analysts stress that Senegal maintains a stable environment because its GDP growth rate exceeds regional averages at 6.3%.

The warehouse will manage electronic products in addition to automotive parts and perishable items through the enhanced facilities at Dakar port.

The project demonstrates the logistics evolution taking place in Africa through its creation of 150 new positions.

Maersk has established building plans for warehouses across Ghana and Nigeria that are scheduled to become operational in 2026.
