Nigeria EFCC detains Influencer Jojo of Lele during #FreeVDM protest, as agency remains silent on arrest circumstances.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detained social media influencer Jojo of Lele at its Abuja headquarters on Tuesday during a protest demanding the release of controversial online critic VeryDarkMan.

Eyewitnesses reported the content creator was taken into custody as security personnel dispersed demonstrators from the agency’s Jabi office premises.

The arrest occurred during a gathering organized by digital activists under the #FreeVDM campaign, which seeks the release of the detained social commentator held on cybercrime allegations.

EFCC officials have not disclosed whether Jojo of Lele faces formal charges or was held for questioning regarding the protest’s conduct.

This incident marks the second high-profile detention of a Nigerian online personality this month, following VeryDarkMan’s arrest.

Constitutional lawyer Adeola Adeyemo noted that while peaceful protest remains a protected right, authorities may detain individuals if demonstrations threaten public order.

The anti-graft agency maintains silence regarding the influencer’s current status, leaving supporters demanding transparency.

Jojo of Lele, known for comedy skits and social commentary, becomes the latest digital creator entangled with Nigerian authorities amid growing scrutiny of online activism.

At this time, neither EFCC spokespersons nor the influencer’s representatives had clarified whether the detention would lead to formal charges.

The development underscores escalating tensions between Nigerian regulators and the social media creator community.
