Kenya relay teams qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, showcasing resilience and setting season-best times in Guangzhou.

Kenya relay teams have successfully qualified for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, following commendable performances at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China.

Both the mixed and men’s 4x400m relay teams secured their spots by delivering season-best times during the heats.

The mixed 4x400m team, comprising Kevin Kipkorir, Mercy Chebet, David Sanayek, and Mercy Adongo, finished third in their heat with a season-best time of 3:13.41.

This performance placed them among the fastest qualifiers, ensuring their advancement to the championships.

Similarly, the men’s 4x400m relay team, featuring Zablon Ekwam, Boniface Mweresa, Brian Onyari, and Kevin Kipkorir, secured second place in their heat with a time of 3:00.88.

This strong showing guaranteed their qualification for the upcoming championships.

However, not all Kenyan teams advanced. The women’s 4x400m relay team, consisting of Esther Mbagari, Mercy Chebet, Vanice Kerubo, and Mercy Adongo, finished fourth in their heat and did not qualify.

Additionally, the men’s 4x100m relay team, including Ferdinand Omanyala, Boniface Mweresa, Meshack Babu, and Steve Onyango, set a new national record of 38.35 seconds but placed third in their heat, missing out on qualification.

These results highlight the competitive nature of the World Athletics Relays and the determination of the Kenya relay teams.

As they prepare for the 2025 World Athletics Championships, the qualified teams aim to build on their successes and represent Kenya with distinction on the global stage.
