Comedy Industry Faces Heat as Alibaba criticizes fellow comedians for crossing boundaries and acting without professionalism.
Comedy Industry under fire as Nigerian comedy pioneer Alibaba openly castigated some of his junior colleagues as they have become increasingly unprofessional.
The iconic entertainer maintained that jokes are now used by many to insult the elders and promote disrespect.
He criticized the culture of ridiculing revered people in society to get laughs.
According to him, some comedians have grown to be irresponsible in the use of words, whereby they use jokes to divide people instead of bringing happiness.
Alibaba emphasized that comedy should not be turned into a permission to insult.
He remembered the days when respect, talent and considerate delivery governed the comedians.
Speaking on the current generation, he said that this generation is not disciplined and has lost the decorum that characterized the craft.
In his words, “You don’t just make jokes about everything, especially things that matter deeply to people.”
This isn’t the first time Alibaba has challenged the new wave of comedians.
His comments have however sparked the debate on the issue of ethics and respect within the Nigerian comedy scene.
