Reverend Daniel Yaw Donkoh, also known as D.Y. Donkoh was arraigned at the Dansoman Circuit Court on charges of publishing false news.
He allegedly claimed in a video that Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale was the target of an impending assassination.
The court granted him bail at GH¢20,000, with three sureties, one of which must be justified. He is required to report to the police every two weeks. The case has been adjourned to August 27, 2025, for a Case Management Conference
D.Y. Donkoh denied the charges. His lawyer emphasized that Donkoh is a family man with four children, a church founder in Tabora, Accra, and a permanent resident of the area. The defense argued he had cooperated fully with police and posed no flight risk
Prosecutor Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye told the court that on July 20, 2025, Shatta Wale’s team came across a viral video in which Donkoh predicted the musician’s death at the hands of armed men.
According to the prosecution, the video caused Shatta Wale to feel traumatized and fearful for his life .
Police initially struggled to reach Donkoh. However, they were alerted that some fans of Shatta Wale were planning to storm Donkoh’s church.
To prevent unrest, they invited him for questioning. During interrogation, Donkoh admitted posting the video and said his motive was to get Shatta Wale’s attention.
