Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has revealed that he does not need anyone to be his fan, and if you’re broke, he doesn’t want your follow either.

During a recent Instagram live session, the Afrobeat superstar opened up about his relationship with fans, emphasizing that he does not compel anyone to support him.

He rhetorically asked, “I force anybody to be my fan?” highlighting his belief that fandom should be voluntary.

The statement follows an incident at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, where Burna Boy walked out on a couple attendee who fell asleep during his performance, underlining that he values energy and loyalty over sheer numbers.

He further revealed that if he were to seek new fans and supporters, he would prefer those who “have money this period,” explaining “pepper dey body,” a Nigerian way of saying life is tough right now.

A commentator said,

“Burna Boy is just keeping it real. Loyalty over everything!”

“Better check your bank before calling yourself a fan, lol!”

Meanwhile, a bash fan added,

“Pride goes before a fall… he is doing too much these days!”

Whether broke or balling, Burna Boy’s message is clear: in Nigerian Afrobeat, loyalty and vibes matter more than numbers.
