Makinde and Wike Camps Break the Ice in PDP Unity Push.

ABUJA – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is taking crucial steps toward healing internal rifts as factions loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike signal willingness to reconcile ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party, long embroiled in disputes between the Makinde and Wike camps, has faced concerns over its readiness to contest effectively in 2027. In a move aimed at calming tensions, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), influenced by the Makinde faction, initiated talks under the guidance of the party’s Board of Trustees, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara.

Speaking in Abuja, PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, confirmed that efforts are underway to restore dialogue between the two camps. Turaki noted that meetings of the National Executive Committee and National Caucus have been moderated to encourage compromise, stressing that legal disputes may be dropped if political agreements are reached.

“To all aspirants, we assure you that PDP will field candidates for all elective offices,” Turaki said, emphasizing that the party is committed to flexibility and unity. “We are willing to bend as far as our necks and backs allow… PDP will not die.”

While challenges remain, including ongoing court cases, the willingness of both camps to engage signals hope for a united front as Nigeria approaches the critical 2027 elections.
