Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has explained why she ensured her ex-husband was present at their daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding, saying she was determined to break what she described as an ancestral pattern of broken homes.
Speaking in an interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown, Iyabo revealed that she believes in ancestral curses and did not want her daughter to experience the same family challenges she and her parents went through.
According to the actress, both her parents were separated, and she was intentional about ensuring her children’s lives turned out differently.
“So I don’t know, there’s something called ancestral curses and we Africans believe it. I believe if you don’t want something to continue you have to be able to break it.
I made up my mind whatever situation that had happened cause my dad and my mom also, you know, were not together.
“Every mistake they had made that I have made my children will not make it. I have paid the price for her to succeed, for her to be happy in her marriage; her father is not dead; he’s alive.”
Iyabo’s remarks come months after Priscilla’s wedding ceremonies generated widespread attention online.
When Priscilla held her introduction and Nikah ceremony in Tanzania, her father was noticeably absent, prompting speculation that he had not been invited or was estranged from the family.
However, those rumours were later dispelled when he attended both the traditional and white wedding ceremonies.
During the white wedding, he walked his daughter down the aisle, while at the traditional ceremony, he was seen maintaining a respectful distance from Iyabo Ojo.
