Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared her candid views on marriage, describing the institution as overrated while noting that she remains open to the possibility of remarrying if it happens naturally.

Speaking during a recent interview on a Lagos-based radio station, the 42-year-old actress explained that she is not actively seeking marriage but is also not closed off to it.

According to her, life experiences have taught her to avoid making absolute decisions about relationships.

Jegede reflected on how many long-term relationships collapse shortly after marriage, arguing that the addition of the marital label often introduces pressure and intolerance that were previously absent.

She observed that couples who dated for many years sometimes separate within a short time after getting married, raising questions about whether marriage itself contributed to the breakdown.

She further suggested that finding love and companionship may matter more than formalising a relationship, adding that cohabitation can sometimes offer stability without the societal expectations that come with marriage.

“I am open to remarriage if it comes, but I am not looking for it. I have learnt not to say ‘never’,” she explained.

“I think marriage is overrated. A lot of people who dated for 10 to 15 years, got married and they broke up within 2 to 3 years.

Sometimes, you wonder why such couples didn’t just remain unmarried.

Because when they add the marriage tag, a lot of intolerance gets in the way.

“I think it is better to find who you love and just cohabit with them,” she added.
