Singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has strongly rejected theft allegations made by social critic VeryDarkMan.
The controversy began when VeryDarkMan released a diss track accusing Portable of stealing a tricycle in 2020, chanting “Ole!” (“thief”) repeatedly.
In response, Portable dropped his own track and slammed the accusation on Instagram, declaring: “I’m not a thief. Stop calling me a thief”
In his fiery retort, Portable didn’t hold back, insulting VeryDarkMan as “poor” and plus, making personal jabs at his family.
Beyond denying wrongdoing, he opened up about a disturbing incident at his former record label, Destiny Records.
Portable alleges that after he left due to insufficient support, members of the label forcibly took back a phone gifted to him, bypassed its password, stripped and publicly humiliated him, all to tarnish his reputation
Portable emphasized that his clarification wasn’t revenge, but a call for “truth, justice, and transparency.” He hopes his openness will shield upcoming artists from similar exploitation.
The public feud illustrates the Beckham-like bitter culture war between celebrity and online critic and highlights ongoing issues of artist mistreatment in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Fans now wait to see whether VeryDarkMan will counter Portable’s claims or whether this will lead to legal action.
