Emir Sanusi Cautions Tinubu Govt: Continuous Borrowing After Subsidy Removal Is Wrong
The 16th Emir of Kano and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has faulted President Bola Tinubu’s administration for resorting to massive borrowing despite the removal of petrol subsidy, a policy that was expected to boost government revenue.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday at the Oxford Global Think Tank Leadership Conference and Book Launch, Sanusi questioned the logic behind continuous borrowings when, according to him, “the government should have more fiscal space” after ending the costly fuel subsidy regime.
While commending the Tinubu administration for removing fuel subsidy and unifying Nigeria’s multiple exchange rates, measures he described as “painful but necessary”, the outspoken emir wondered why the fiscal discipline expected from such reforms has yet to reflect in national spending priorities.
He, however, cautioned that the reforms would fail unless matched with fiscal discipline and transparent spending.
EXCLUSIVE: How ‘Repentant’ Boko Haram Members Leak Nigerian Army Movements, Armoury To Terrorists — Soldiers Reveal

One of the personnel told SaharaReporters on Tuesday that the so-called repentant fighters routinely brief terrorist leaders about Nigerian Army movements and plans before major attacks.
“Before Boko Haram attack any military camp in the Northeast, they already know how we operate.
These repentant fighters tell them everything,” the soldier revealed.
“They expose how many men we deploy at the gate or entrance, the kind of weapons we carry, even the daily routine in the camp.”

Verydarkman alleges popular comedian tried to use his ngo to launder N700 million
Popular critic Verydarkman has alleged that a well-known comedian attempted to funnel N700 million through an NGO to disguise the origin of the funds.
In a post shared online, Verydarkman claimed the comedian, described as usually quiet on social media, was approached with a plan to transfer the large sum into the NGO’s account, with an agreement that a portion would be siphoned off as pay-offs.
According to VerydarkMan, the arrangement would have seen the NGO receive the N700 million, from which insiders would withdraw portions and distribute kickbacks.
He said the comedian was told he would personally receive 10 percent, about ₦70 million, while the rest would be made to “disappear” through the NGO’s books.
VerydarkMan added that he refused to be part of any scheme that would route such a large sum through his organisation, saying he would rather invest in property than allow the money to touch the NGO account.
Dollar to Naira exchange rate today, October 29, 2025

These figures show a continued gap between the official/volume-weighted NFEM rate and what bureaux-de-change and informal traders are offering on the street.
Market data and rate aggregators indicate the naira held within a narrow band in the official market on Wednesday, trading around the mid-₦1,400s per dollar after recent stability delivered by improved FX liquidity and inflows into local assets.
Meanwhile, informal market quotes stayed higher — reflecting persistent demand from importers and retail dollar seekers in the parallel market.

However, speaking at the Unstoppable Africans event recently, Savage boasted that Afrobeats is unstoppable.
She argued that contrary to claims that the genre was declining, it is gaining more grounds on charts and tours.
She also spoke about the cultural impact of Afrobeats, recalling that she used to be unhappy about being an African growing up in London, but the positive image Afrobeats is giving the continent has made her become proud of her race.
The singer noted that Afrobeats has achieved a lot despite not having enough support, structure or infrastructure.
