Compilations of the latest updates and happenings in Nigeria today, Thursday 30th October, 2025

House Of Reps Approves Tinubu’s $2.35billion Loan Request, $500million Sukuk Plan

The House of Representatives has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to borrow $2.35 billion to finance part of the 2025 budget deficit, aligning with the President’s earlier proposal to raise fresh funds from the international capital market.

The approval, granted on Wednesday, also covers Tinubu’s plan to issue a $500 million debut sovereign sukuk in the international capital market to fund key infrastructure projects and broaden Nigeria’s access to alternative financing sources.

The green chamber’s decision followed consideration of the report of its Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management.

Which recommended implementation of the new external borrowing of N1,843,669,786,987.16 (equivalent to $1,229,113,000.00) at the budget exchange rate of $1.00/N1,500 as provided in the 2025 Appropriation Act to part-finance the N9.27 trillion budget deficit.

The approval brings to fruition the financing plan President Tinubu laid before the National Assembly in October, when he asked lawmakers to endorse a comprehensive strategy to raise a total of $2.347 billion from the international capital market.

Tinubu’s pardon U-turn draws fire from Atiku’s aide

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, has criticised President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a “reactionary” and “embarrassing” reversal of the presidential pardon earlier granted to some convicted drug traffickers, kidnappers and other serious offenders.

In a statement, yesterday, Shaibu accused the administration of lacking foresight and moral conviction, saying the decision to revoke the clemency only came after intense public outrage.

Once again, Nigerians have witnessed a government that doesn’t lead, it reacts.

President Tinubu has cancelled his own pardon for drug traffickers, kidnappers and other hardened criminals, but only after Nigerians shouted loud enough to wake him from his moral slumber”, he said.

He argued that the President’s decision amounted to “an act of shame, not wisdom,” questioning the process that led to the controversial list of pardoned individuals.

Dollar to Naira exchange rate today, October 30, 2025

The naira traded stronger in official trading today while the parallel (black) market remained weaker, underscoring a persistent gap between electronic foreign-exchange markets and street dealers.

At the Daily Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) — the volume-weighted official market rate published for interbank/official transactions — the dollar was trading around ₦1,452.8/US$ on October 30, 2025.

This level is in line with recent official-market gains that have seen the naira strengthen from earlier October levels.

Meanwhile, Lagos parallel-market dealers quoted the dollar between ₦1,480 and ₦1,495 — with dealers buying around ₦1,480 and selling up to ₦1,495 — keeping the parallel market roughly ₦25–₦40 weaker than the NFEM rate.

The parallel spread remains an important indicator for importers and retail pricing despite improvements in official FX liquidity.

Foluke Adeboye, the wife of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has revealed how her family dog passed away on January 1st due to having eaten poisonous food that was delivered to their residence.

The 77-year-old cleric recounted the near-trageity in a video recently shared with church members, stating that the household barely escaped harm when the suspicious meal was taken from their table.

Mrs. Adeboye explained that the food was brought to their residence as one of the many New Year gifts received.

However, feeling a sudden sense of unease, she instinctively instructed her staff to feed the dish to their dogs.

“Somebody on one of the New Year Day brought food to our house. Of course, so many people had been coming in, going, and eating.

I just entered into the kitchen and asked who owned this food.

They said a person brought it. I looked at the food and asked them to give it to the dogs,” she narrated.
