Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, known as Omije Ojumi, passed away on January 12, 2026, in Lagos.

Close friend and collaborator Lanre Alewilese shared details about her final days.

In the weeks leading up to her death, Omije Ojumi was unable to speak or open her eyes, indicating the severity of her illness.

New information has surfaced regarding the final days of Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, widely known as Omije Ojumi, who passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.

Lanre Alewilese, a close friend and collaborator of the late singer, shared a heartfelt account of her last moments.

He revealed that in the weeks before her passing, Omije Ojumi was unable to speak or open her eyes, underscoring the severity of her illness.

Alewilese explained that he chose not to disclose the worsening state of her health to the public in order to spare fans from unnecessary distress.

He added that seeing her in such pain was deeply difficult, and sharing updates would not have offered any hope.

Speaking in Yoruba, he said:

“…In the final weeks before Omije Ojumi passed away, she could neither open her eyes nor speak.

I kept her condition private because there was nothing positive to report. I didn’t want to cause unnecessary worry.

Watching her struggle was heartbreaking…”

The 46-year-old gospel singer had spent months in prayer, seeking divine intervention for her illness.

A widely shared video of her praying for healing had drawn concern and prayers from fans across the country.

Omije Ojumi was best known for her soulful gospel music, particularly her hit song Omije Ojumi, which inspired and uplifted countless listeners.

Her sudden passing has left a profound gap in the Nigerian gospel music industry.

Since the announcement of her death, fans, fellow artists, and gospel music enthusiasts have taken to social media to honor her legacy, remembering her as a gifted and inspiring voice whose music will continue to resonate for years to come.
