Social media critic, Daniel Regha accuses Tinubu of misusing public funds, the social media commentator wrote following President Bola Tinubu’s generous rewards to Nigeria’s Super Falcons for their WAFCON 2024 victory.
Reacting to the presidential gifts, Regha took to X (formerly Twitter) to critique the administration’s priorities, asking how official funds were spent on sports celebrities while civil servants struggle financially.
He questioned whether the lavish packages, comprising $100,000 cash and three‑bedroom flats per player were taxpayer‑funded or from borrowed resources.
Regha emphasized the contrast between the Falcons’ reward and Nigeria’s economic reality: “For a country crippled by poverty, where civil servants are struggling to make ends meet… how does this sit well with anyone?… This is misuse of public funds.”
His post comes in the wake of the official ceremony on July 28, 2025, where President Tinubu conferred national honours (OON) on the team, granted cash gifts and housing units , a move widely celebrated but also heavily criticized.
