It was not an easy job as revealed by interim coach Abdul Karim Zito who guided Asante Kotoko to a 2-1 final win over lower-tier Golden Kick FC in the FA Cup final at Legon Stadium.
Zito replaced Prosper Narteh Ogum mid-season and termed the changeover as a big challenge.
He told how in the beginning he was not familiar with the players.
But as the team became accustomed, he became comfortable: “Now I am okay with them.”
Their 10 th FA Cup trophy was sealed by the late penalty that Kwame Opoku scored in stoppage time and took Kotoko to the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
Zito praised his side’s determination in the final, noting that Golden Kick began to tire as the match wore on.
“It reached a point, they started getting tired and we started pushing them”.
The coach, who made his second FA Cup victory after winning the trophy in 2023 with Dreams FC, termed this victory as one of the milestones in restoring the silverware heritage of the club.
This is the fair account of Karim Zito in assuming the reins amid pressure.
